DECKadence Marine Flooring FAQ’s
Q. What is DMF?
A. DMF is simply the best choice for marine flooring applications on the market to date. It is superior to any other alternative in terms of durability, maintenance, practicality and beauty.
Q. The best choice, superior…why?
A. The truth is seasoned boaters know all too well that there are few viable choices out there for watercraft surfaces. For example, there are hardened vinyl and perforated rubber which are both hard and ugly. Then there is carpet that looks great for a couple months, except when it’s wet, then you deal with mildew and deteriorating backing materials at which point you decide to live with the mess or replace it, over and over again. Keep carpet where it belongs, in a house and not on a boat. Then there is the lesser of all the evils…nothing at all. There ought to be a better solution and now there is..DMF. Finally a viable alternative to watercraft surfaces that delivers on all levels, so yes…DMF is superior and the best choice!
Q. What is DMF made of?
A. DMF is combination of aerated rubber, PVC and resins treated with advanced UV inhibitors and proprietary compounds that contribute to the durability and longevity of the product in the marine environment.
Q. How do you maintain DMF?
A. DMF requires very little maintenance to keep it looking great and functioning as designed for years to come. Usually all it takes is a good spray with hose to get dirt and debris to flush out of the specially designed texture. For tougher stains just use a soft bristled brush and your usual boat soap.
Q. What about Mildew?
A. Mildew spores, or forms of mildew, exist almost everywhere. There are many causes of mildew but generally humid, hot, wet conditions are mildew’s favorite growing conditions. DMF does resist, but is not immune to mildew. We recommend occasionally lifting up the DMF and folding it over after use to let the underside air dry.
Q. What about covering up my deck hatches?
A. What about it? If it is not a frequently used hatch then covering it with DMF helps make the deck seem larger and look cleaner. When you need access just fold the DMF over to gain entry. For frequently used hatches we can simply cut around them and use snaps to hold the DMF in place on top of the hatch.
Q. Won’t the looped surface texture of DMF hold in debris?
A. Contrary to what you might think, it does just the opposite. The large pores in the DMF material are made to easily flush debris out with a simple hosing. Unlike carpet and alternatives, even fish scales and hooks dislodge with ease.
Q. How long will it last?
A. Of course, this largely depends on use and abuse but even in heavy traffic areas you can plan on about 4 years of great service before replacement is a consideration. The material comes with a 1 year unconditional wear and tear and UV fade guarantee.
Q. I have seen other material like this, what’s the difference?
A. Every great product gets copied eventually but usually they lack the testing, product development and warranty of the original. This is the case with DMF and other similar products. Like most “knock-offs” fake DMF is only superficially similar. These imitators carry no enforceable warranty, have little or no UV inhibitors and use a PVC mixed with limestone composite for cost savings. The result is a product that while cheaper, breaks down rapidly, radiates a rotting smell and falls apart when exposed to the marine environment, especially salt water.
Q. Can I install it myself?
A. Absolutely! We can supply you with all of the materials, tools and instructions you need for any DIY project.
Q. Why should I have you make the panels?
A. Our specialty tools and experience! We use thermal welders to fuse section of DMF together to make one solid continuous piece. Our experience ensures that the panels will be perfect when they arrive on your boat. Having us pre-make the panels also reduces your installation to just a few minutes and wouldn't you really rather be boating?
Q. Can I put a logo or boat name in my DMF?
A. Absolutely! We excel at custom logos including boat names, boat brands and dealership logos. Just tell us what you are trying to do and we’ll make it happen.
Q. How do I make a template?
A. If you still have your old snap-out carpet it really is quite simple. Just trace the panels on to a suitable media (contractors paper, plastic or mylar film) and send it off to us.
Q. Do you have templates for my boat already?
A. We might. CONTACT us to find out.
